D5.1 – Participatory Research, Research Agenda and Action Plan for Serbia

Explore insights from Serbia on how AI is reshaping youth employment, skills and education, and the priorities identified for a more inclusive transition to work.

On 8, 17 and 20 July 2026, Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS), within the PATHFINDER project, delivered participatory research activities in Niš and Belgrade under the title “AI START: Youth, Artificial Intelligence and the Pathways to Employment”, bringing together young people, employers, job information centres, civil society organisations, AI experts and other stakeholders.

The activities created participatory spaces to explore the implications of AI for youth employment and the future of work, while supporting broad participation, particularly among young people from rural areas and marginalised groups. An additional focus group during International Student Week in Belgrade brought international perspectives into the research process.

Building on the national baseline survey, participants explored the opportunities, risks and challenges associated with AI in the labour market through interactive activities, problem tree analysis, structured voting and collective reflection.

The findings informed the Research Agenda and Action Plan for Serbia, highlighting priorities around accessible and practice-oriented AI education, digital literacy, critical thinking, ethical awareness and inclusive preparation for AI-driven labour market transitions.
